According to WNDU, " St. Joseph is hosting it's first annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoe's men's march for domestic violence awareness!"

The organizers hope it will create community awareness and preventive education about sexual violence.

“People don’t think it happens as much as it does but it really does so we’re trying to bring awareness to the event and the issue and really bring attention to it and also get men involved. That’s really something we wanted to highlight this year, which is why we’re doing the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event so men can be seen as part of the solution to end domestic violence, and not just as the abusers the perpetrators,” says Megan Regan from Safe Shelter.

Two Men and a Truck, one of the sponsor's of the event, says that they are ready to put on their heels for a great cause.

I figure as a man, I can take the boots off when I’m done and people say I should be embarrassed but I just don’t think it’s anything compared to what the women go through that are victims of domestic violence. It’s nothing for me to do this, I’m happy to help,” says Dave Hunt from Two Men and a Truck.

If you're in the Michigan Area, the event will be held Tuesday October 20th, 2009, at the Heritage Center in downtown St. Joseph. There is also a candlelight vigil at 6:30.
